The battle usually begins immediately unless you do not move, as they won't make any moves to attack you in return. In Spyro: Year of the Dragon, however, you receive a dragon egg for defeating bosses. In Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage!, there are no collectables found or rewarded for defeating the bosses. Unlike the first game, Spyro must defeat the boss in order to advance to the next homeworld. In subsequent games, boss realms consist of arenas or enclosed areas where Spyro is trapped until he can defeat the boss associated with that realm. Spyro usually encounters the boss towards the end of the realm, and pursues it along a portion of it. Defeating the boss is not necessary in order to advance to the next homeworld.
